4 ½ starsLove Is exceeded my expectations.
Now, I was not prepared for such an "in your face" female character, but Avery's snarky and sarcastic inner voice and her unique outlook on things were surprising and refreshing. That is not to say that is was not exasperating with her inability to corral it all and make a reasonable decision about her burgeoning relationship with Jackson. But, this is no cookie cutter character. Therefore the reader should not expect a cookie cutter romance.
The thoughts and feelings of Avery, while amusing in a lot of instances, are ofttimes confused and conflicted. But I fell in love with Avery, and was in her corner, sometimes rooting for her and occasionally giving her a mental slap to the back of the head.
The author also gave me a good insight into the other characters, especially Jackson. Even without his point of view, I got a good feel for his personality, his strengths, and weaknesses and his seemingly infinite patience with Avery. I found myself cringing when Avery allowed some asinine comment or response to fall out of her mouth, feeling Jackson's pain as she did so.
I enjoyed the other characters also. They are well placed in the story and support the storyline nicely.
There is a lot of humor between the characters, but the banter between Avery and Jackson kept me laughing and waiting for more.
The passion is strong and sexy and real.
The relationship between the two is hard fought, and the HEA is satisfying.
This is the first book I've read by this author, and I'm glad I took the time to try this out.
It took a little bit for me to get used to the 1st person point of view and to stop looking for Jackson's voice, but once I got past that, I was hooked.

Love Is eBook SE Harmon Reviews
If you like a good fake boyfriend story turned real you'll really like this one. Avery is tired of all the blind dates her family is trying to set her up on. That and finding out her ex is now engaged, and having to prove that she has moved on, she makes up a fake one. This backfires when her sister invites him to come along to meet them for family gathering. When Julian, her best friend, suggest bringing a fake date. Jackson, Julian brother, goes along for the trip. As the story progresses they grow closer, learn things about each other they never knew before, and the fake relationship becomes not so fake. Avery's personality is entertaining, her sarcasm and wit have you smiling, though at times you just want to strangle her. Jackson is cynical about love but Avery is not like anyone else. The banter and chemistry between them is perfect. Then the family gathering turns into a longer visit, with more time spent in each others company, pretending to be together. What follows is an emotional rollercoaster for Avery. Between family surprises and her struggles with her feeling regarding it, also figuring out how she feels about her relationship ending with her ex, and the growing feelings she has with Jackson and the confusion of whether it's as fake as they are supposed to be pretending to be. Will they get their happily ever after kind of love or will she let it go because she doesn't think it is real. I recommended this book for anyone who likes fake relationship stories, humor, love, family drama, and a HEA.
With an ex who has clearly moved on and a family who thinks she hasn't, Avery Jane is in a bind. She doesn't want her ex back but she's trying so hard to prove she's happy staying single that she's not sure if she's pretending to be happy or keeping herself too busy to think of the alternative. So when her loving but incredibly pushy sister threatens her with blind dates, Avery takes the easy way out and makes up a fake boyfriend. Except by doing that and committing to come to their father's birthday party she now has to find someone to play the part. Her best friend has a solution and even if she knows being attracted to the playboy lawyer with a hot ass and a wicked sense of humor shouldn't play a factor, it does. It might also crumble her walls and make her fall in love. But how do you know it's love when you're not sure what love really is? She'll have to figure it out sooner rather than later or she'll lose it all before she ever really has it.
The snark, wit, banter, and playfulness was superb. I loved Jackson and Avery Jane's interplay while they were getting to know one another. When it moved into the bedroom it became so much more, instead of being the focus of their relationship it became merely a facet of something that was growing, changing, and deepening. While I was definitely not a fan of how often Avery was avoiding her feelings I could feel where she was coming from.
Avery was so conflicted having not truly grieved for her mother's passing and watching her father move on, her brother move away, and her sister become the over-achiever she's realizing she's stuck in the past and doesn't know how to move forward. She's completely successful and brilliant in her own right but she has no idea what she really wants her life to look like. When she suspects she's falling for Jackson she pushes him away as well as her thoughts regarding him because avoidance is always easier than the harsh introspection of hurt feelings. Once she sorts it all out, though, her realization of what love truly is for her is stunning. After having the conversation with her father that was a long time coming she was able to come to terms with what she feels and who she feels all of it for. Now she just has to get him to take her back.
I so wish we had Jackson's POV. I wanted to see his feelings for her and see how he viewed her struggle. But honestly, this story wasn't just a romance novel, it was about Avery's emotional journey through grief, avoidance, self-worth, and coming to terms with all of it so she could not only see herself clearly, but see her future too. The story took kind of a long time to get to her point of awakening but that annoyance was pretty minor overall. I grew to both love and be frustrated with Avery as I would have if she were a very real person in my life. I loved her sense of humor, her vulnerability, and her inner strength. I was frustrated with her constantly running away and avoiding the one person who could see all of her clearly and loved her for it. Her story is funny, sexy, annoying, and triumphant all at the same time and I enjoyed just about every moment.
This love story was incredible. I loved the storyline and the characters. AJ drove me crazy sometimes with her way of thinking, but she always made up for it with her humor.
Jackson was a dream and so thoughtful. The tender way he handles AJ, made my heart melt. I’m so glad he was a passionate man.
The humor in this book was great. One line in particular made me laugh cry (hung the moon and farted out the stars), OMG so funny.
I highly recommended this book.
