Historical fiction can either be wonderful or leave you lost. In this case, I'm voting for wonderful. The story was one that could have been set in any time period, but fit perfectly right where it was. The secrets were ones that could have destroyed people during that time period, but were ones that perhaps most of us could relate to, no matter the time period. The imagery was wonderful and more than once, I wanted to curl up in that walled garden and enjoy its beauty while I curled up with a good book.Tags : A Lady at Willowgrove Hall (Whispers On The Moors) [Sarah E. Sarah Ladd brings The Whispers of the Moors series to a close with A Lady of Willowgrove Hall.
You are introduced to the leading lady of this tale, Cecily Faire, on its initial pages. Cecily is attempting to run away with the young man who had taken away her innocence. Unfortunately, her father has learned of their plans. He intervenes and takes Cecily to the Rosemere School for Young Ladies instead!
After Cecily has been at the school for five years, she is given the opportunity to work as a lady's companion at Willowgrove Hall. Cecily has no idea how her life will change when she enters this new world! Cecily meets Nathaniel Stanton, Willowgrove's young steward, as she is arriving to start her new job. You soon learn that both Nathaniel and Cecily have secrets they want to keep under cover.
This is an interesting journey with Nathaniel and Cecily as they learn to trust each other and also trust their great God!

This is the second book of Sarah Ladd's that I have read and let me say I was not disappointed!
The Regency period has to be one of my absolute favorites and this author does a fantastic job writing about that time period.
Cecily Faire is disowned by her father for trying to sneak away in the night to marry the wealthy son and heir of her father's employer. She is left at Rosemeer (the school for girls from book 2 of this series) without any connection with her twin sister.
5 years later she is given the chance to become a lady's companion for an older Lady who is at the end of her life. As she arrives at Willowgrove Hall she meets the steward of the estate who has a secret he is trying to hide. They continue to have interactions and his mother and sisters continue to make her feel part of their family.
The Lady(Mrs. Trent) of the estate encourages Cecily to have nothing to do with Nathaniel Stanton (the steward) and his family.
Cecily also discovers that the nephew, Andrew Moreton, of Mrs. Trent was her long ago fiance(sort of) whom she tried to elope with.
With everyone carrying around secrets and guilt or pain from the past can they learn how to move forward and allow forgiveness to help heal them and allow a happy future for all?
This was a great clean read. You do find out Cecily had a premarital relationship with Andrew thinking they were to wed soon but there is only a brief mention of it and no details.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Thanks Sarah Ladd for a great entertaining read that I didn't want to put down and couldn't wait to finish!!!
Happy Reading!!!
Another wonderful read by Sarah Ladd. I've read the Headmistress of Rosemere, and I enjoyed this one even more! This was a book that drew me in right from the beginning, which is somewhat rare for me.
Cecile Faire was so easy to like. She felt herself so unworthy, and she was no snob even after obtaining the position of a lady's companion. She was a well written character, and I felt as if her emotions jumped right off the page.
I liked Nathaniel Stanton, but more than that, I enjoyed all the sisters. The scenes that take place at his home are comfy and enjoyable! His sisters are wonderful, and I totally enjoyed little Hannah as well.
The clothes, houses, and lands were well described and definitely take one back to that time period. The spiritual message is obvious throughout the book. I took this book on errands, had it while cooking, and just didn't want to put it down. It was one of those lovely enjoyable reads that I couldn't wait to finish, yet I was disappointed when I came to the last page. If I didn't have so many others to read, I would be tempted to read it again. This is one for the keeper shelf. Truly enjoyed this read, and I highly recommend it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Sarah E. Ladd. It is about the third book I have read of hers and it won't be the last. Ms. Ladd is a wonderful writer and this is a clean historical romance about a young lady, Cecily Faire, who made a mistake as a teenager and was sent to an all girls school where she grew into a fine young lady and became a teacher there. Then she was asked to be a companion to an elderly woman, Mrs. Trent, from Willowgrove Hall.
Once she arrives, she meets the steward for Willowgrove Hall, Nathaniel Stanton, and an immediate attraction is felt, but Cecily can't foster a relationship with any man without telling her secret. Little does she know that Nathaniel has his own secret he wishes to keep.
This story grabs you by the heart and it really makes you think about how much of someones past should be overlooked when they have made the effort to change. Will Cecily and Nathaniel be able to make a go of it, or will their secrets keep them apart forever? Pick up a copy and get to reading to find out.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. The above review is purely my own and I was not compensated in any way for this review.
