My 10 year old son loves these books. He has read all of the series and wanting more. I don't think Mr. Korman can write fast enough to keep up with my son. I would recommend these to a boy or girl.

Island Trilogy Boxed Set Gordon Korman 9780439466141 Books Reviews

I am a teacher and I have my high students read this collection of books. From the moment they start they are hooked. They don't want to stop reading it. We breezed through the first book and know they can't wait to read the others. My other reading groups are wanting desperately to read this series, so I find it to be a good motivator. I have also read the entire DIVE series to my class and they loved it.
it is a book related to cooperation, equality, respect, friendship, uniqueness, love, growth, you name it.
although people have different talents, they are one.
just like our bodies, we have hands, ears, eyes, hearts, feet, etc.
they have different functions, but they are one.
all of them are equally important.
the book taught me a lot.
my favorite character is Richie Rich. a funny nickname...
sounds like he is not special, but he IS special in some way.
you will know it in the end.
Through an alternative rehabilitation program for troubled teens, called Charting a New Course, Luke, J.J., Will, Lyssa, Charla, and Ian, have all been sentenced for various reasons to one month aboard the sailboat, The Phoenix.

This is an adventurous, fast and easy book for pre-teens about empathy, friendship, family, and survival.

I read the first book with a ten year old and we both loved it. We are now onto the second and it's easy to predict that we'll end up reading the other Gordon Korman series as well.
Picture this. Cast Away, with a touch of James Bond and then a lot of the Olimpics. Add it together, adn you get the ISLAND series.
I loved thiese books. Fromt he moment Luke (main character) gets on the book, I was hooked onto the books. If I could, I would give the review seven stars.
These six kids are shipwrecked on an island, by the fault of the bad guy, Radford a.k.a. Ratface. Once there, they discover that they are not alone and that there are bad guys, worse that then Ratface, holding an illegal smuggling system on the island.
Also the characters are running out of food, are lost, tired and one of them has amnesia.
And just for the heck of it, Korman threw in a bomb. ot a live one, ready to blow them up, but the third bomb from WWII.
Eventually, they get off, but its a real surprise how. The characters have never ending personalities and great desprictions. My favortie is the athlectic Charla and brainy Ian. This series I nominated for the best book award at my school. Its that good.
These three books are an excellent choice for kids. They're very exciting and are full of adventure, yet the author ties events together so logically that you're convinced that it "could really happen".

The characters are well done for the most part. There are six, and most of them feel like they could be real people. Two of them seem a little improbable, but they serve to offer comic relief. Each one comes into their own in time, so none of them really fade into the backround or feel disposable.

I really enjoyed reading about how the kids survived on the island; it emphasized their resourcefulness, and made me interested in what challenges they would have to face next. Although survival was the basic premise, there were also a couple of subplots that were woven into the main themes, which made the books feel more like adventure novels and less like life lessons. At the end of the third book, all of the storylines converge for a gripping and satisfying ending.

Overall, these three books are literally difficult to put down once you dig into them. There's always something exciting looming, always another surprise to hook you. I highly reccomend these for children, and if you read them to your kids, I'll bet you'll find yourself just as interested in them.
THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A BOXED SET. nO BOX AND ONLY ONE BOOK WITH ALL THREE PARTS OF TRILOGY INCLUDED. THE BOOK WAS VERY YELLOWED WITH AGE ...DID NOT LOOK NEW. DISAPPOINTING AS I BOUGHT FOR GIFT.
I purchased these books for my 10 year old who had them in her classroom. This is her review. She highly recommends them for her age group. They are exciting, suspenseful, and really enjoyable. She really couldn't put them down until she had finished all 3 of the series! All of the kids in her class are reading the books. She would recommend them to anyone who likes to read adventure.
