Soraya Lane really did a good job developing the characters Luke and Saskia. Luke is a man's man plain and simple. He is a go getter, a fast decision maker and confident in all he does and he instills confidence in those that rely on him. God I wish there are more like him to go around.I also like the way Saskia was portrayed. She is Corporal in the Army, and has men under her command, but she was also confident of her abilities, and did not feel threatened by Luke's ability to take over and find a way for her to reach her son by Christmas. She expressed her gratitude to him for trying. She did not try to contradict or super imposed her own ideas as how to proceed. I would not have thought that a women military officer would have been so trusting and have allowed a man to take over. It was very refreshing for Saskia to have been developed with that type of character.
Also Luke was very respectful of her rank and her years in the military, he never said anything to her indicating that her sacrifice for her country was any less that his as a Navy Seal, involved in higly classified military operations.
I just wish that the ending would have been more in depth. I guess I just don't care for endings that don't spell it out for me. I hate to have to put my own ending on a story. Of course I probably would say that they married and Luke retired from the Navy, they had 3 more children and lived happily ever after. But that is my ending, you have to read the book to put your on spin on it.

THE NAVY SEAL'S PROMISE edition by Soraya Lane Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
It's always heartwarming to read a story about our men and women in the military and THE NAVY SEAL'S PROMISE is exactly that. An army Corporal on Christmas leave and a NAVY SEAL on medical leave meet and found love in the most unexpected place.
Now, here are my two cents First, she is Army, he is Navy and there is a big competition between the services. And him being a SEAL makes him a die-hard Navy. Alright, there are always exceptions to the rule. But generally, Army and Navy do not mix, specially the elite fighting forces.
Second, this might be a ***SPOILER*** so please stop reading here if you don't want to know. She is a college graduate, so why did she enlist? She could have gone to Officer Candidate School. Again, there are exceptions to the rule. College graduates choose to enlist at times. But, generally, they go to OCS.
Third, as someone already pointed it out here, a Navy SEAL does not usually advertise. No matter how pretty the girl is, the SEAL's training would make him very mum about who he is. And again, she is Army; the more that the SEAL will be reticent.
I have more, but I think you get the gist. There are a lot of literay license taken in this story. It's a beautiful story though and has the elements of "It Happened One Night".
This book is rated PG 13 due to sex.
This sweet, short (but not too short) story left me with a smile on my face when I finished it. It's the perfect pick-me-up if you don't have a lot of time to read and want something uncomplicated, but well-written, coupled with that feel-good factor.
I liked that Saskia and Luke could immediately connect due to their military background, which gave them something in common. Luke has a lot of compassion for Saskia, who is trying to get home for Christmas because of a promise she made to her young son. Saskia is an independent lady, but not too proud or stubborn to accept help from him when she knows that there's no way she can make it home on her own in those kind of lousy weather conditions.
I did feel, however, like some details were missing from the story. Like, how old is her son, exactly? And how long ago did her husband leave? Why did he leave? Saskia seems to be well over him and not even bitter any longer, so it makes me wonder how long ago that happened. But if it happened some time ago, why is it only now that she thinks it's time to leave the military and make a home with her boy? How is she going to make a living when she leaves the military for good--what does she plan to do next?
Luckily, these questions didn't mar my enjoyment of the story, but they would have helped to make the story more complete and give me a better idea of where Saskia is coming from. I felt like a lot more background information was offered on Luke compared to Saskia, and I wished I could have gotten a better picture of who she is.
I think I'll probably re-read this book again on a rainy day when I want a few moments of happy escape. I got it for free during a promotion, but I think it's worth the $2.99 price tag.
THE NAVY SEAL'S PROMISE by Soraya Lane
THE NAVY SEAL'S PROMISE is a short story from Soraya Lane's contemporary romance line of novels. Like many novellas, the storyline is quick paced, to the point and the romance is heartwarming.
The story focuses on two members of the military home for the holidays when they find themselves stranded in a snowstorm at the airport on Christmas Eve. Saskia Cullen is a corporal in the army, on 48 hours leave, hoping to see her young son on Christmas Day before her return to duty, and Luke Gray, a Navy SEAL who is home for a few days before his next assignment.
Both Luke and Saskia are looking for something but neither is aware that the someone is right in front. Luke lost his wife to cancer three years earlier and has not celebrated the holidays since the SEALs refused to give him leave to visit his dying wife. Saskia hides a painful past knowing her son's father wants nothing to do with her military career or a child. Seeing the sorrow on Saskia's face, Luke knows there is only one option, and he calls in a favor to get Saskia home for the holidays. Luke promises Saskia that he will get her home for Christmas dinner and in true Navy SEAL fashion, Luke keeps his word.
THE NAVY SEAL'S PROMISES is a sweet story of romance. There is no secret agenda, no covert operation and the adults know what they want. No one pushes the other away and both make another promise to see each other again. If you like a love story with a HEA this one is sure to please.
