What I liked about this book was the quality of the MCs. Merrick is the Leo (alpha) of his pack, but he is not the usual alpha who listens to no one, always keeps the heroine behind him (if not tricked into staying home), runs roughshod over her feelings, or traps her with her sexuality. We're told he rules the pack with an iron first, but he always treats Trina, the heroine, as an equal. In addition to the insta-attraction, there is a real affection between the two characters that is usually missing. Merrill has feelings beyond "she mine - must protect". This book easily passes the Bechdel test. Trina talks to other women, they talk about something other than a man, and there is more than one reasonably well rounded female character. For romances I would add that Trina thinks about something other than Merrick. For PNR I would add that Trina acts on her own ideas. The plot was good and there was plenty of action. I liked a lot of the dialog because it was so natural. At one point early on, Victor, the second in command, challenges Trina's right to be at a murder scene. One of her reasons is magic: "unless you can pull magic out of your ass, I guess that leaves me." My only problem with this book is the large number of typos. At a quick glance I counted 17, but that wasn't going through the whole book.

BloodSworn Stacey Brutger Books Reviews
I know there were some complaints with the typos and font size, but I managed to get a corrected copy that was reissued through by the author. So, not a lot of issues on that front for me. Any minor typos in my copy were easily overlooked because I was too wrapped up in the story. And no issues with the font size in my copy either.
Personally, I love Ms. Brutger's books. This makes my third that I've devoured and I can't wait to read more. I read a sample of this particular book at the end of The Demon Within and have been waiting for it since then.
This author has a great way of writing the element of magic in action scenes in her stories which I really enjoy. Definitely keeps me flipping the pages, or in this case, touching my kindle screen. I've never been the biggest "magic" or witch lover, but it's really starting to grow on me. Of course, throw some shifters in the mix, and I can't help but get caught up in it since I love shifters.
Merrick and Trina are both likeable characters. They seemed to compliment each other and it was pleasant to read their attraction shape up into a romance while they're dodging attempts on both of their lives. There was a nice balance of romance and suspense in Bloodsworn in my opinion.
And Merrick...There's just something about an alpha male chasing after the woman he's fallen in love with. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's a possessive, sexy, lion shifter either. So, it should come as no surprise that I love this hero.
There were also some secondary characters I would love to read more about, such as Weston and Judith. Weston had that air of secrecy that made me quite curious about him. And Judith, well, I just liked her, even in the beginning. I like tough women that don't mind doing what needs to be done in order to get to the top.
All in all, I thought Bloodsworn was another great read by this author, and I can't wait to read more.
I enjoyed this book and was disapointed to see that it could be a stand alone (not sure on that). But it could be, everything is nicely finished - no cliffhangers. I will definitely try other books from this author, will shop for them next.
Trina is great - she had a courage and great morals. Merrick sigh Merrick - He is AWESOME! Someone said this was not a Romance - they must be crazy - it is a romance - it is not a sex manual but it is a romance, with some kick butt action mixed in. This would be a romantic urban paranormal book. There is quite a bit of time spent on the romance part for those that like straight action.
I liked the clans, but I will say as much as I loved this book - it felt like there were some parallels to the Kate Daniels book. Merrick has pulled all the clans together, Trina is a blood witch and has power over blood. The sidekick boy ends up being a witch not a werewolf - but has similar personality traits. But that is where it stopped - SB's vampires are very different, Trina is a Dr, and quite frankly I loved the story so much that after the first few chapters it felt like it's own story. I will just say that @ first it felt more like a KD book, but it DID move past that, so don't let it stop you.
I love that we get insight into Merrick and see things from his POV as well, so we are not guessing. She seemlessly transissions between Trina and Merrick's viewpoints. It is not confusing.
I like how it was wrapped up; although, I thought the characters were strong enough to support follow up books, and I hope that will be considered, I don't even think they would need to do other characters stories, I think Trina and Merrick could just be one of those fantastic couples.
Loved it Loved it - If you like romance in your paranormal or urban fantasy this one is for you )
